Patrick Scales was born in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, where he started playing professional gigs as a bass player at the age of 14.
In 1989 he moved to Munich. 1994 he joined the band Klaus Doldinger’s Passport and 1996 the Pee Wee Ellis Assembly.
As a co-leader of the band ‘Scales’ he released three CDs at record lables such as Enja and Blue Note.
From 1996 to 1999 he was faculty member of the university of Music and Performing Arts Heidelberg-Mannheim.
Between 1999 and 2008 he was teaching electric bass at the Richard Strauss conservatory in Munich. Since 2008 he is lecturing at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich.
He is co-auther of the book “A Rhythmic Concept for Funk/Fusion Bass” by Peter O’Mara published by Advance Music.
At concerts and recordings he worked together with artists such as Klaus Doldinger, Pee Wee Ellis, Rainhard Fendrich, Max Mutzke, Fred Wesley, Chuck Loeb, Dominic Miller, Don Grusin, Nils Landgren, Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Claudio Roditi, Jay Ashby, Martin Scales, Peter O'Mara, Joo Kraus, Tony Lakatos, Roberto DiGioia, Wolfgang Haffner...
