Foto Scales Patrick

Patrick Scales started his teaching career as a main subject teacher for electric bass in 1996 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Heidelberg-Mannheim. This was later followed by the Richard Strauss Conservatory Munich and the Jazz Institute of the University of Music and Theatre Munich. He is regularly engaged as a lecturer at jazz workshops, such as the annual International Jazz Workshop Erlangen, where he has been active since 1997. He is co-author of the book "A Rhythmic Concept for Funk/Fusion Bass" by Peter O'Mara, published by Advance Music.

As co-leader of the band SCALES, he released 3 CDs under his own name together with his brother Martin Scales (guitar). Among them the CDs "Grounded" which was released by the renowned jazz label Blue Note and "Our House", Enja Records. He was a permanent member of Klaus Doldingers Passport for 28 years, which is one of the most influential jazz-rock bands in the world. For over 24 years he collaborated with American saxophonist Pee Wee Ellis in the studio and live.

In recordings and concerts he also collaborated with the following musicians: Fred Wesley, Ola Onabule, Chuck Loeb, Robben Ford, Randy Brecker, Nils Landgren, Dominic Miller, Don Grusin, Claudio Roditi, Jay Ashby, Joy Denalane, Johnny Griffin, Benny Bailey, Bob Mintzer,Till Brönner, Wolfgang Haffner, Max Mutzke, Rainhard Fendrich, Helge Schneider, Udo Lindenberg...
