Keul Michael

Michael Keul studied drums with Billie Brooks (USA) at the "Swiss Jazz School Bern" (Bern University of the Arts). Important stages in his artistic career include his 15 years as drummer in the Al Porcino Big Band and his many years of intensive collaboration with Scott Hamilton and Dusko Gojkovic. His musical work has been documented on more than 50 CDs to date.

Since 1985, Michael Keul has played with jazz greats such as Chet Baker, Clark Terry, Woody Shaw, James Moody, Red Holloway, Scott Hamilton, Sal Nistico, Hugo Strasser, Bill Ramsey, Conte Candoli, Houston Person, Herb Geller, Howard Alden, Don Braden, Charlie Mariano, Dusko Gojkovic, Joe Haider, Echoes of Swing, Joe Kienemann and many more.

He is in demand as a lecturer for drums, rhythm section, jazz ensemble, big band and jazz history. With his "Samerberger Jazz Ensemble" he regularly realizes projects on various aspects of jazz. He was jointly responsible for the conception, realization and moderation of the successful music event series "Jazz & Talk" as a cooperation between Gasteig GmbH and the Jazz Institute with more than 20 theme evenings. Since 2010, he has been a lecturer in jazz history and jazz drums at the University of Music and Theater Munich, where he also supervises the Jazz Archive of the Jazz Institute.
