Madagascan drummer Joisa Rakotondravohitra, founder of the Aponga Music and Drum School in Antananarivo, invites students to a unique rhythm workshop exploring the 12/8 groove of Madagascar and its connection to jazz and improvisation.
Through hands-on practice with percussion, and ensemble work, participants will experience how traditional Malagasy rhythms can be adapted into contemporary musical contexts. The workshop focuses on rhythmic awareness, body coordination, ensemble interaction, and the creative use of polyrhythms such as 4 against 3.
